Writing, speaking and advocacy track record amongst the best in the UK

"I grew up in the North East of England in the 1970s and 1980s, a time of great economic restructuring and change. When I was at school, at times, 1 in 5 of my fellow pupils' fathers were out of work. Growing up in a so-called 'backward' region, made me get interested in the regional 'problem' when I went to university to study economic and geography. I eventually went on to do a Master's degree and Ph.D. specialising in economic restructuring and regional economic development.

"In my career so far, I've had the pleasure to do research and work in a variety of places - from Glasgow, Scotland to Berlin, Germany and London. And I've worked with, and learnt from some wonderful colleagues over the years.

"My career passion and interest has always been about cities, regions and local areas - and economic development and regeneration"
